| Air Date: 11 Nov 03 Reviewer: J So are we going to see Jack almost shoot up all season long? This is the second time in three hours that he's been "this close" to injecting himself with heroin (in the middle of a national security crisis, of course). Fortunately, he was interrupted again. We've also just found out that "the initial estimates were off" and that 20% of L.A. would be infected within a week, not 9%. Hell, 9%, 20%, it's a lot of people, right? Why are we splitting hairs about this? Shouldn't all efforts be spent on stopping this rather than crunching numbers? (You're going to see me bitch a lot about this episode, I think.) Speaking of the number cruncher, it's this doctor who's evidently friends with Jack. She even invoked the name Teri! Way to cheer up Jack, doc! Good job helping him keep his mind on his work! Dumbass. But anyway, what is Jack doing discussing his pursuit of Kyle Singer with her? She's no agent - she's the director of Health Services for L.A. Okay, some other things I was irritated about: All the promos show us "the virus is out! The virus is out!" But it's not. I'm not sure why, but I really felt duped. We even see the bag of coke with the fan blowing it out and I don't know about you, but I could already feel Kyle's (deadbeet) parents' skin beginning to melt. Icky. Then, of course, we find out that the coke's clean and not deadly. (Does that seem like an odd statement to anyone else?) Okay, I admit, it's cool that the virus is dormant in Kyle at the moment and once again, it's a race against the clock. Of course, this time, CTU seems to have things down to a science - things are coordinated well, Chappelle's not being a roadblock, Tony and Jack are working seamlessly, etc. These are things I openly wished for at points last season. I opined about how good it could be if Jack actually had support for a change. Well, now he has it and it looks like he needs it, given his "perspiring" condition. (If someone commented on you "perspiring" wouldn't you just point out that you're in southern California? Me too. I guess Chase isn't the only one who knows about Jack's addiction anymore.) I ventured over to the Fox "community" board where discussions rage on 24/7/365 about 24. Some folks were irritated that Tony was sent into the field instead of Chase. I got news for people - Tony is a far more experienced field agent than Chase is. Tony is trained in hand-to-hand combat, was a sniper in the Marines, and is armed at all times, as we've seen over the past two seasons. In fact, another thing I've often wished for was to see Tony and Jack working together in the field. It doesn't look like that's going to happen, now, does it? So let's move right on to poor Tony. I, like many fans, really like him and the way he handles situations and simply does what's right. Taking a bullet to the neck is not a good sign. Neither was all that blood pouring onto the floor and over his face. I would honestly be surprised if Tony is killed off, but it would be far from unprecedented on this show. I guess Jack is right - you can't work at CTU and expect to have a relationship. Well, you can, I suppose, but you have to be prepared to be widowed at a young age. Does this mean Michelle will be single again? I'm sorry, that's insensitive - I'll wait and see if Tony's paralyzed or something. Speaking of Michelle, how is she "in charge" of CTU when Tony's out? She's an internet protocol manager and an intelligence agent, not a director or deputy director or anything. I mean, I guess I can let it slide and just assume that she's second-in-command to Tony the way Tony was for Mason at the start of last season. However, it seems odd that she would be in this position now. Maybe she's sleeping with her boss. Oh, wait….. Go On to Page 2 |
