| No, we did not copy those clowns from the Mastercard commercials from the summer of 2001. Let me just get that out there right away. The odyssey, as I like to call it, began officially (if it had an official beginning) in the summer of 2000. A buddy of mine from college and I had been to a few parks over the years and had both decided we wanted to see more. We shared a love of baseball and agreed we would start with a few parks on the East Coast -- Camden Yards, Yankee Stadium, and Fenway Park. After that, we just started to get hungry for it and now we see as many parks each summer as we reasonably can. Many people SAY they want to do this kind of thing (usually to a female to show her he can be passionate and follow-through about something), but I can actually say that as of the close of the 2002 baseball season, I have personally attended games in 16 major league parks, and I have visited two others at which I wasn't able to see games. Now, with the way that teams are getting new parks all the time, it's doubtful that I will ever be able to say I've been to all of the major league ballparks. But it sure is fun to try. Throughout my visits, I have kept a very informal journal of my impressions of each park. Basically, I settle in, eat, and soak up as much as I can. I feel that a ballpark is one of the most relaxing places on this Earth -- unless it's playoff time. Then all bets are off. Enjoy. |
