Hour Seven
(2:00 P.M. - 3:00 P.M.)
Review/Commentary
Well, I’d just like to start out by saying Kim’s character has officially “jumped the shark.”  I’m disappointed to have to say that, but it’s true.  I said the following last week:

Back to the Unofficial 24 Page

Go Back to Television

Go Back Home!
Kim’s latest bad judgement call was to take Gary’s Lexus.  I realize they didn’t have a car, but did she learn nothing from taking their truck a few hours ago?  He probably has keys somewhere and reporting your own car stolen is fairly easy.  I only hope they use it to just get somewhere (like CTU, duh, but that’ll never happen) and then ditch it.
I must be clairvoyant.  I’ve clearly been watching 24 too intently.  I am now predicting the levels of the characters’ poor judgement.  Kim taking the Lexus was just so stupid on so many levels.  I mean, I realize they NEED to get out of L.A., but that’s just such poor, poor judgement.  Especially when she already knows Gary will call the police on her and blame her (and convincingly given the way she essentially HAS kidnapped Megan).  It’s unfortunate that their decision to take Gary’s Lexus was so transparent.  And of course now, he’ll be able to say the following:

1. My wife is missing
2. These two (Kim and Miguel) kicked my ass
3. and kidnapped my daughter
4. and stole my car

It’s falling into place way too easily in my head.  THEY look guilty as hell and Gary doesn’t.  Okay, since I’m on a roll with predicting, I will now say that the only way Kim and Miguel will be exonerated is by Megan telling the truth about her dad.  I think this will, of course, happen and they will be free before the end of the day.  However, if the 24 writers decided to lock them up in a cell where they could do no more damage to the show’s plot, I’d be okay with that.  I suppose every now and then we could have 5 or 10 minutes of them making out, with Kim topless.  I guess I’ll have to wait for the HBO version of 24 for that.  (Aside – wouldn’t it be cool to have profanity and nudity on the 24 DVD?  Like when Nina disrobes we get to see it?  When Michele decides to take a quick shower after the CTU bombing, we get to watch.  Stuff like that.  I’m telling you, I should be a creative consultant on this show.)

Anyway, I’ve completely departed from reviewing chronologically which I usually try to do.  The last thing I will mention about the Kim/Miguel/Megan/Gary thread is that it was interesting that we didn’t see them at all until about 45 or 50 minutes into this hour.  I don’t attach any significance to it, but it seems the writers are doing that a little bit more this season.  I also noticed a couple episodes where the Warner household wasn’t shown for a long time (okay by me).  Just thought I’d mention it. (In fact, Gary wasn't seen at all.)

As for some of the other issues, we see yet some more drama at the Warner house.  Kate seemingly has perfected her bewildered look.  She and Rayza get into a shouting match, which I actually really liked and thought was well-played by the two of them.  Of course, ugly Marie had to then intervene with her melodramatic, “Enough!  That’s enough out of the two of you!”  And of course Rayza, being much like mature Marie, says “Way to go, Kate.”  I think everyone needs to knock off this “Way to go, Kate, you’ve ruined everything” bullshit.  I mean, come on!!  There are links to terrorism in the house!  And I don’t think Kate’s digging has anything to do with it.  I think CTU would have linked the Warner’s anyway.  In fact, I think that’s exactly what happened and everyone is assuming it was Kate’s investigator.  Either way, I was also astute enough to point out that Bob Warner was bad news and I felt from the beginning that Rayza was way too obvious to be a true bad guy.  He may not be the cleanest, but he’s not all that bad.  In fact, it sounds like he’s a little scared of Bob.  He didn’t implicate Bob until the last possible second and only under Tony’s threat of arrest.  And even in this episode when Kate asks him what he “accused” her father of, Rayza says “I didn’t accuse him of anything.”  Despite his disdain for Kate, he clearly answered that he didn’t accuse Bob of anything.  Important distinction there, I think.

As for old Jack and Nina, he gets to see her naked again.  Now, what was with those scars?  Unless they’re from prison, Jack must have seen them when they had their affair while Jack was separated from Teri prior to season one (wouldn’t a prequel season be cool someday?).  So I don’t know how dramatic those will turn out to be.  Or if we’ll ever know what they’re from.  Regardless, I don’t see them being relevant at this point.

The FBI guys along for the ride with Jack and Nina are acting a little more like the FBI would, in my opinion, when dealing with Jack, a CTU (read = CIA) agent.  They don’t like each other’s organizations and Jack did kill one of their witnesses earlier in the day. (Notice how there’s been absolutely ZERO fallout from that?  Not one comment.)  Anyway, they seem to be a little more by-the-book and they also realize that Nina is essentially a free woman since she signed that pardon. So killing her or risking her life is not something they are prepared to do.  Of course, they didn’t have their wives and unborn child killed by her.
