Hour Twenty
(3:00 A.M. - 4:00 A.M.)
Review/Commentary
Is it possible??  Two consecutive episodes without Kim??  Okay, okay, while I rail against Kim and her storylines, I do kind of miss her.  I mean, she's a fox, what can I say?  And it's not like they haven't had some Kim-like plotlines, such as Kate Warner taking the muggers to her home to pay them off for the chip.  Come on.  These guys sure are idiots - let's give her as much time as possible to memorize our faces and names.  Yes, I realize they finally realize this towards the end, but are they really prepared to be murderers??  I don't think so.  If so, I would imagine they would have killed Yousaf.  Same deal - if he remembers, he could identify them.

Ah, yes, Yousaf.  I'll just leap right to him since I'm not going in any particular direction with this review.  Poor, poor Yousaf.  All he wants to do is serve his country and protect his people.  And after helping take down a platoon of U.S. special forces commandos, Yousaf is felled by three beer-swilling hillrats.  As I mentioned last time, what are these hillbilly types doing in L.A.?  Do they have hillbillies in L.A.?  Someone from the West coast please fill me in.

I did like Jack's clear concern for Yousaf - his apology as Yousaf died was truly heartfelt.  Jack knows he's alive largely thanks to Yousaf's help back at the warehouse.  However, we all know that anyone close to Jack generally ends up dead. Imagine the funerals this guy has been to over the past 18 months.  Ah, but I'm digressing.  Our man Yousaf, true to his federal agent roots, stays alive long enough to tell Jack where the thugs took Kate.  I liked this, because it seems accurate to me - he knows his life is over, but he's trying to still pass on the information that he has.  What I didn't quite get was how Jack knew where Kate lived.  All he knew was it was Hancock Park.  Speaking of which, what a posh neighborhood, huh?  Hancock Park is not far from Beverly Hills and West Hollywood and it is right near the Wilshire Country Club. So Kate is doing okay for herself - I wonder why she's not taken yet?  How come there aren't any single women like Kate on the East coast?  Why am I dreaming about a fictional character?

Backing up a bit to the beginning, am I the only one who thought Stark would be around a little longer than he was?  I mean, I surely didn't think one of his men would kill him.  However, when this Kingsley guy "promotes" you, it comes with some clout.  Imagine if it were that way at your office:

"Congratulations, Jim, I'm promoting you to Vice-President."
"Thank you, sir!  I'm going to start by killing Bill from Accounting.  He really pisses me off and just isn't doing a good job."
"Sounds good!"

Thankfully, those bag guys are the dumb, inattentive kind and they allowed Jack and the good doctor to hatch a scheme.  Of course, Jack is able to escape because what kind of show would it be if our hero was mortal?  I mean, Jack has done his share of interrogating and he's probably killed men with families before (besides Drazen), yet we only care that Jack and HIS family are reunited.  Ah, we are such arrogant Americans.  Isn't it great?

So the mean, mean henchman was terrorizing Jack with Beroglide, which for those who aren't skilled in the art of torture, paralyzes the diaphragm and makes breathing almost impossible.  It's said to feel like a drowning, but for a longer time period than drowning takes.  Sounds lovely.  This is obviously why the doctor kept protesting that increased dosages would kill Jack.  It's also why the doc said that mean, mean Henchman had about 15 minutes to live once he was injected with a double dosage.  Evidently, it's bad enough that you're willing to take a bullet to escape it.  Speaking of which, Jack sure can be ruthless, can't he?  I mean, he is just killing one after another - wouldn't it make sense to arrest some of these clowns?  Ah, here I am injecting reality into fantasy again…
